Bonuses for AUA managers annoy the workforce and politicians

Despite the Corona crisis and the resulting high loss of EUR 99 million in the second quarter and EUR 450 million in state aid, Austrian Airlines paid out bonuses to around 200 executives. As the standard reports, the payments relate to the 2019 financial year, which AUA closed with a profit of 19 million euros.

There will be no bonuses for this crisis year. If there is a loss, there are no bonuses, said an AUA spokeswoman according to the report. The board members alone are said to have received around one million euros. The AUA does not want to disclose how much has flowed in total. The only thing is that the funds were booked late due to Corona – namely not in spring, but in summer.

The AUA on-board works council criticizes the fact that the distribution is being made although many customers are still waiting for their money for canceled flights. The FPÖ locates a “self-service shop of the republic”. The SPÖ wants a bonus ban for companies that receive state aid. Roman Hebenstreit, chairman of the trade union vida, calls on the government to consider a “bonus payment ban” for management as a condition for state aid. “The hard-working taxpayers can only wave after their money, as it flies away with the AUA’s top managers,” he criticizes.
