Bonn’s Spectacular Light Show: A Green and Certified Event

The Old Town Hall shimmers between red and magenta, the Sterntor appears ghostly bathed in blue light: After the pandemic and energy crisis, Bonn shines again on the first weekend in November. The City-Marketing association is still waiting for a commissioned report from conservationists who have investigated whether bats are endangered by the light spectacle. But managing director Maike Reinhardt is sure that everything is fine: “The LEDs only shine on the buildings and not into the sky beyond them.” In addition, the event was certified on the occasion of the World Climate Conference in Bonn. City marketing uses energy-saving technology and green electricity, explains Reinhardt. And all lights would be turned off by 10 p.m. at the latest.
