Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was transferred to a hospital in Sao Paulo yesterday to be examined for intestinal obstruction, Reuters reported. The agency added that according to the presidential office, an emergency operation may be necessary due to another complication as a result of the wounding of Bolsonaro with a knife in 2018.
The president’s eldest son, Flavio Bolsonaro, said his father would remain under medical supervision. Jair Bolsonaro was initially admitted to a military hospital in Brazil with abdominal pain. His son told Hove Pan radio that he was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit of the capital’s hospital and intubated.
I talked to the doctor, he calmed me down, asked the family not to worry, because this is not something too serious. He will remain in the clinic under observation for three days to assess whether surgery is necessary. But even if surgery is necessary, it will be a simple procedure, Flavio Bolsonaro was quoted as saying by TASS after his father’s relocation to Sao Paulo.
Flavio said he was able to talk briefly on the phone with his father, who assured him that he was feeling well, although he had not fully recovered from the anesthesia.
Earlier, it was reported that the president had been hospitalized after suffering from hiccups for 10 days (which could be a symptom of intestinal obstruction). In a conversation with supporters, Bolsonaro himself admitted that he had been tormented by constant hiccups for several days after he had two dental implants in early July.
