After almost two months of battle, which began with his positive diagnosis of Covid-19, the artist and writer Roberto Valcárcel lost his life in the last hours. Immediately, social networks were flooded with messages of farewell and tributes to this man, whose art “will remain with us forever.”

“You will always live Roberto Valcárcel, what a deep pain,” wrote the artist Roxana Hartmann, who recently promoted small auctions to raise funds for Valcárcel.

“What a great sadness. How to say goodbye to you, Roberto Valcárcel, if your art will remain with us forever. Thank you therefore, for opening our eyes, for showing us other paths, other ways of thinking, questioning and constructing thought,” he wrote , for his part, Miguel Vargas, singer, actor and journalist.

Born in La Paz, Valcárcel studied graphic design and architecture in Darmstadt (Germany) and created Producciones Valcárcel (1978) for artistic research. He was a promoter and cultural manager and contributed to training.

He was the recipient of several national and international awards. His work can be found in various museums and galleries nationally and internationally.

Recently, he was presented with the Obra de Vida award within the LXIX Municipal Contest of Plastic Arts Pedro Domingo Murillo Hall, which evaluates “the trajectory inside and outside the country, the contribution to the formation of new generations, the recognition of creativity and originality of the proposal “.

At the end of May, solidarity campaigns began to circulate to raise funds for the treatment of the artist by Covid-19. After a few weeks, and after going through intensive care, the writer was also discharged and continued his recovery at home. In mid-July, however, it was known that the artist had a relapse and that he needed to be hospitalized again, mainly due to respiratory difficulties. The tributes and displays of affection were constant in these months.
