President Luis Arce Catacora announced that The national government determined that children between the ages of 5 and 11 can receive the Covid-19 vaccines. The doses chosen for this age group are those of Sinopharm and an agreement was reached with the Government of China to send three million vaccines before the end of the year.
“We have made the decision that, starting tomorrow, Thursday, December 9, vaccination against Covid-19 will also reach children between 5 and 11 years old, ”the Head of State reported in a message to the country.
The president explained that specialists from the Ministry of Health collected information, with their peers from other countries and laboratories; after that evaluation it was decided that Chinese Sinopharm vaccine will be used with the immunization schedule that is known, that is, two doses 21 days apart.
El presidentexplained that, in the following days, Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) will send aircraft to China to collect the supplies that guarantee the vaccination of 1,646,498 children in all the country. With this decision, Arce said, the vaccinable population will reach 10,218,265 citizens.
The authority urged families to vaccinate children and also all people who do not have any of the doses Until now. Although the President said that there is logistics for vaccinating minors, it was not announced what will be the strategy that the Government will use with subnational governments.
The vaccination of minors was a request that emerged a few days ago from the Government of Santa Cruz. With the presidential announcement, the departmental health services (Headquarters) will be responsible for applying these doses and thus continue the battle against the virus in the midst of the fourth wave of infections.
