Vishal Garg, head of the mortgage company Better.com, chose an unorthodox method of getting rid of 900 employees.
In a Zoom meeting, he had invited all of the employees he was to resign on the day, and handed over the message in plenary.
– I have bad news. The market has changed, and we must change with it to survive. You do not want to hear this, but it is my decision, and I want you to hear it from me. This is the second time in my career I do it, last time I cried, but this time I hope to be stronger. We will get rid of 15 percent of employees, and you are one of those who must quit, Garg said in the Zoom meeting.
Parts of the Zoom meeting have subsequently been spread on YouTube and TikTok.

Several media, among others CNN, has mentioned the case. They write that the dismissals come despite the fact that Better.com recently received 750 million dollars in fresh capital, equivalent to approximately 6.8 billion Norwegian kroner.

This is not the first time Garg has come into the spotlight for sensational action.
Forbes revealed in November 2020 that the Better boss had sent emails in which he scolded employees.
Now the mystery can be solved
Among other things, they revealed this email which he sent directly to employees of the company:
«You are TOO DAMN SLOW. You are a bunch of DUMB DOLPHINS and … DUMB DOLPHINS get caught in nets and eaten by sharks. SO STOP IT. STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW. YOU ARE EMBARRASSING ME»
He is also said to have complained about work effort, and believed that employees worked eight hours, but only worked two hours.
Garg himself admitted to Forbes that he was the sender of several emails that the employees were allowed to review.
