Bolivia received this Sunday a batch of 188,370 Pfizer vaccines against covid-19 donated by the United States through the Covax mechanism, health authorities confirmed.

“A new batch of 188,370 Pfizer vaccines arrived in our country through the Covax Mechanism, to strengthen the Vaccination Plan in addition to counteracting a possible fourth wave,” the Ministry of Health reported through Twitter.

To date, the Andean country has received a total of 13.4 million vaccines from different laboratories, said María Renee Castro, Deputy Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance.

Of that total, 2.4 million correspond to the Covax mechanism, and the rest to bilateral donations and own acquisitions.

“The donation is part of the US government’s plans to increase vaccination coverage against covid-19 in other countries, counteract new waves of infections and prioritize the vaccination of health workers and other vulnerable populations,” says a note WHO / PAHO press release in Bolivia.

The Ministry of Health reported that to date 3.3 million Bolivians received the first dose of the anticovid vaccine and 3.2 million the second.

However, there is still resistance from some sectors of the population to be immunized under false arguments such as that the doses cause sterility or that the vaccinated become werewolves.

“Do not be afraid of vaccination and stop listening to comments, myths, legends and gossip that vaccinations are harmful. Vaccines are a fundamental variable in the reduction of cases, a protective shield for life,” exhorted Vice Minister Castro .

With 11.5 million inhabitants, Bolivia registers 498,790 infections by covid-19 and 18,698 deaths.
