Bolívar, Leader of Social Prosperity, Faces Criticism for Salary Donation Scandal

Bolívar, one of the main “squires” of President Gustavo Petro, now leader of Social Prosperity, assured that he will donate his salary of $24 million.

“I can tell you that I will donate my salary, I live off royalties from copyrights and my novels. I have not had contracts or anything with the State and that makes me proud,” he commented in a debate in August 2023.

However, the commitment to donate his salary does not save him from questions and from some sectors he is already branded as “corrupt.” Bogotá councilor Daniel Briceño recalled through his account in

Briceño pointed out that Bolívar “deceived the country” by saying that he would donate his senatorial salary to social campaigns. The lobbyist added that he gave just over $30 million to the Mothers of Soacha and, supposedly, deposited $273 million to the Clean Hands Foundation, which he founded in 2011 and is currently directed by his nephew Germán Calvo.

“Then he reported the donations in his income statements in the DIAN and obtained tax benefits for having donated to a foundation that he himself manages,” said Briceño.
