Boeing suffered its first annual loss since 1997 as costs of the 737 Max crisis increased

Boeing announced today, Wednesday, the first annual loss since 1997, with the increasing costs of the 737 MAX crisis, and indicated that it will again reduce the production of its larger 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which is currently its main source of funds, and the costs associated with stopping the 737 MAX flights around the world have reached 14.6 billion dollars in 2019, and the company warned of another financial burden of four billion dollars in 2020.

Boeing, facing the biggest crisis in its history, had previously estimated that the costs of the Max crisis would cost about eight billion dollars.

The company announced today, Wednesday, operating losses of $ 2.53 billion, or $ 2.33 per share, in 2019, compared to profits of $ 3.87 billion, or $ 5.48 per share, in 2018.

Added to Boeing’s troubles is the decline in demand for its larger and more profitable aircraft – the 787 Dreamliner – due to the trade war between the United States and China, which has damaged financial flows at a time when debt is increasing.

In October, Boeing said in a statement, which produces 787 Dreamliners, at an average of 14 aircraft per month, that it expected production in late 2020 to drop to only 12 aircraft per month amid a depletion in orders from China.

Boeing now expects a further decline in 787 Dreamliner production to reach 10 aircraft per month in early 2021.
