Boeing, first test flight for 737 MAX

Boeing began a test flight on Monday to determine if the 737 MAX can fly safely again after fatal crashes landed worldwide last year. The plane took off from an airfield near Seattle and flew through the eastern state of Washington before descending to Oregon and eventually returning to the Seattle area.

Flight enthusiasts around the world followed in real time as the plane flew over downtown Washington and maneuvered. The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) approved the certification test flights after Boeing submitted the security fixes for the review. The flight is a milestone towards the end of a detention imposed worldwide since March of last year, after 346 people died in two accidents of the best-selling model of Boeing.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed that they are conducting a series of certification flights this week to assess the changes proposed by Boeing to the automated flight control system on the 737 MAX.

The certification flights, which are expected to take around three days, will include a wide range of flight maneuvers and emergency procedures to assess whether the changes meet the FAA certification requirements. The tests are conducted by FAA and Boeing test pilots and engineers.

“Although certification flights are an important milestone, they remain a number of key tasks,” said FAA, which follows a testing process and will take the time to review Boeing’s work thoroughly. “We will only remove the detention order after verifying that the aircraft meets the certification standards,” said the Federal Aviation Administration.
