BMW has updated the most expensive and rare X5 crossover. A factory armored version of the X5 Protection with VR6 protection has debuted in Germany. There were no revolutions: following the usual crossover, BMW changed its appearance, added a new infotainment complex, and added a V8 engine with a 48-volt starter-generator. Deliveries of the restyled BMW X5 Protection will begin in February, prices have not been announced, but 400,000 euros can be considered a guideline.

The BMW X5 Protection outwardly differs from the usual crossover except for the thick glass frames. However, the design is completely different: in order for the car to withstand shelling from weapons of 7.62 mm caliber (AK-47), the body is reinforced on all sides with metal sheets, special tires are installed, and previously unseen options are also on the list: blue flashing beacons, special communications and flagpoles.
The basis of the bulletproof version is the X5 M60i with a 4.4-liter V8 (530 hp, 750 Nm). The demo version has red brake calipers, an exclusive dark blue body color and athermal glazing, but usually armored cars look inconspicuous: dull tinting, black color and hidden special signals. Interestingly, the standard equipment includes adaptive dampers and a fully controlled chassis.
The upgrade of the armored car means that the family of upgraded BMW X5 G05 is fully formed. First restyling survived conventional crossoverthen “charged” versions of Mthen upgraded crossover limousine for China, and now the rarest and “niche” version for protected persons has been finalized. Prices are not indicated, but the novelty will be at least four times more expensive than the original.
