JOURNAL – Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) for employees with salaries below Rp. 5 million, amounting to Rp. 1.2 million, has been channeled by the government in two stages.
Salary / wage subsidy assistance for phase I was distributed as many as 2.5 million workers and 3 million workers who received subsidized salaries / wages in phase II.
DKI Jakarta is in the top rank with the most workers receiving subsidized salary / wages, namely 1,071,414 workers or around 19.48%.
The second to fifth ranks are occupied by West Java (1,029,830 workers / 18.72%), Central Java (702,531 workers / 12.77%), East Java (560,670 workers / 10.19%), and Banten (455,193 workers / 8.28%).
“This wage subsidy is expected to be able to maintain and increase the purchasing power of workers and boost consumption spending. This will cause a multiplier effect on economic growth and social welfare,” said Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah in a press release from the Ministry of Manpower, Monday, September 7, 2020.
Through salary / wage subsidies, he said, the government wants to protect, improve and sustain the workers’ economy from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Money that goes directly to the worker’s account can be spent according to needs, both primary and secondary needs.
“It would be better if the subsidized salaries / wages were spent on local products and MSMEs. Thus the local industry and UMKM will also be active, “he said.
