Blinken: There are 300 more Americans left to evacuate from Afghanistan

There are currently only 300 Americans left in Afghanistan who want to leave the country, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Sunday, with these estimates coming a few days before the expected evacuation is due.

“We have about 300 American citizens left who have indicated that they want to leave. We are working very hard to help them get to the airport, get on the plane and leave Afghanistan, ”the Secretary of State told ABC.

Almost 5,500 Americans have also been evacuated in the course of a large-scale operation in which more than 114,000 people have been flown in Kabul since the Taliban came to power.

Some Americans have chosen to remain in Afghanistan beyond the August 31 deadline, when the evacuation must be completed, but “they will not be stuck in Afghanistan,” White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullan told Fox News on Sunday.

The United States “has a mechanism to take them out,” the adviser said, without elaborating on the subject.

“[Kustība] “The Taliban have made a commitment to us, and we have the leverage to get them to live up to that commitment,” Salivan said, trying to encourage the Americans and other allies left in Afghanistan about a future that seems very uncertain at the moment.

Sullivan also recalled that the United States and other countries have frozen multi-billion dollar assets of the Afghan government.

“This is the most dangerous time in an extremely dangerous mission,” Blinken warned.

Salivan, Fox News, said, “another attack could happen at any time.”-

More than 100 people, including 13 US soldiers, have already been reported killed in a terrorist suicide bombing at Kabul airport on Thursday. The local branch of the Islamic State, the Islamic State of Horasan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

With the withdrawal of the US and other foreign military contingents from Afghanistan, the Taliban launched a general offensive operation this month and quickly seized almost the entire territory of the country, but on August 15, Kabul fell into their hands.

Taliban control alone has not come under Taliban control, where Taliban opponents have established a center of resistance to the radical Islamist regime.
