Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter believes Iran should not be allowed to participate in the World Cup and sharply criticizes his successor, Gianni Infantino.
– Iran should be banned from WC, Blatter says, according to the newspaper Blic.
There has been a lot of unrest in the country, which has been going on since mid-September. Protests erupted in Iran and many other places around the world after Mahsa Amini, 22, died in the custody of Iran’s morality police in September.
Blatter insists that if he was still FIFA president, he would have banned Iran. The former president of the federation finds it incomprehensible that Infantino does not take a clear position on the matter.
– Has problems creating a fund together with Qatar – for all workers who had accidents during the construction of the World Cup. I think it has to be done by someone in FIFA who has the guts to stand up. But Infantino doesn’t even dare to respond to reporters, Blatter claims.
In the past, Ukraine has also asked FIFA to ban Iran. They justified this with the fact that Iran provides military support to Russia’s invasion war. Both Russia and Iran have denied claims that Russian forces have been bombing Ukrainian targets with Iranian-built drones.
Iran plays in Group B of the World Cup with England, USA and Wales. The championship in Qatar starts on November 20th.
