Dthem to three thousand people had expressed their intention to protest Sunday against racism and police violence in front of the Palace of Justice in Brussels. In the end, there were seven thousand more who responded to the call from the Belgian Network for Black Lives (BNFBL) collective. A gathering dedicated to Georges Floyd but also to people of color who died in Belgium in circumstances that remain to be clarified: Adil, Mehdi, Lamine, Semira, Mawda… their names appeared on many placards and returned in almost all the speeches made on the steps of the palace.
“The murder of George Floyd obviously woke up a lot of people,” said Ange Kaze, spokesperson for the Belgian Network for Black Lives (BNFBL). “Many people are fed up with police violence that systematically affects blacks,” she adds.
