The tour starts directly at the Himmelreich train station. The Höllentalbahn (S1) runs several times an hour.
Retreat
The Höfener Hütte is located on the ascent, with dumpling variations and vespers you can see the Dreisamtal, hoefener-huette.de. The Hinterwaldkopf hut is waiting at the summit; Tip: Roast pork in dark beer sauce on Sundays / public holidays (hinterwaldkopf-huette.de).
Best time
Early summer and autumn. In midsummer it can be too hot, in winter there is snow on the summit.

outdoor tip
At Hinterzarten, the spectacular Ravenna Gorge has carved itself into the rock. Several laps (10-15 km) lead from Hinterzarten through the forest to the canyon and the viaduct over which the Höllentalbahn thunders. Along the wildly spraying water it goes along boardwalks and footbridges. Refreshments are available at the viaduct.
route
From the Himmelreich train station, the yellow diamond takes hikers through the underpass under the main road and then left over the Rotbach past the half-timbered house of the Untere Blechschmiede. On the Schweizerlehofweg and the Holzeckweg you climb up to the Wiesensattel Holzeckweg and now follow the blue rhombuses on a winding forest path to the Höfener Hütte.After a coffee on the terrace, you go up over flowering meadows to the Hinterwaldkopf with the two memorial stones for those in the World Wars fallen gymnast. From here you have a magnificent all-round view of Feldberg, Kandel and Schauinsland. Behind the summit, the Hinterwaldkopf hut entices you to stop again, then yellow rhombuses mark the forest path along the slope above the Höllental. In a right-hand bend, turn left onto a path and descend through the forest towards Weberhansenhof. There you go into the courtyard driveway and then left along the slope towards Bisten. A short detour leads to a small waterfall. Via Rappeneckweg, Alpersbacher and Freiburger Straße to Hinterzarten station.Florian Sanktjohanser
