BJP’s Video Campaign Targets Congress Over Corruption Allegations

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released a video series called “Congress Files”, alleging extensive corruption under the previous Congress-led government. The first video, posted on Twitter, focussed on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s alleged involvement in high-profile scandals such as coal, 2G and Commonwealth Games, the estimated worth of which totalled INR 48,20,69,00,00,000 ($69.9bn). This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused opposition parties of launching a “Bhrashtaachaari Bachao Andolan” (movement to save the corrupt). Meanwhile, leaders of opposition parties led by Congress approached the Supreme Court, claiming misuse of central investigative agencies.
