BJP man who tore down Portugal flag beaten by fans, in hospital; What is the truth FACTS CHECK | FACT CHECK: Panur BJP man beaten by Portugal fans

The incident where a BJP-RSS worker snatched the Portuguese flag from Kannur Panur thinking it was the SDPI flag went viral. Last day, an RSS man named Deepak destroyed the Portuguese flag that fans had hung in the area to express their support for the paratroopers. Subsequently, it was widely reported that he was brutally beaten by Portugal fans. The information circulated from group to group on social media, along with a photo of him in hospital, bleeding from the beatings and stitches on his head.

The flag was pulled down from the pedestal of Panur Vaidyar on Tuesday at 7.30pm. The flag tied by Portugal fans was pulled down and destroyed at around 7pm for no particular reason. Some people who witnessed the incident caught it on camera and spread it. Portugal fans who saw this came and questioned him. But he asked why are you angry about tearing down the SDPI flag. Even fans were shocked to hear this. Video of a young man tearing down the Portuguese flag has gone viral on social media. Police say Deepak Elangode, who tore down the flag, is a BJP worker. The offense of him was drunk. After ripping it off, he realized that he was a Portuguese flag. Then there was a small altercation between him and the Portugal fans. The Panur police also informed that a case has been filed against him for public harassment.

The messages said the beaten BJP worker had been admitted to Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Manjodi, Thalassery. However, the hospital authorities informed that no one was admitted to the hospital today with beating injuries from the Panur side.

Pannur Police says:

Pannoor Police Station was contacted to find out whether the information that the RSS officer who tore down the flag was beaten up by Portugal fans was true. They informed that the police have not received any information about the beating, except that one case has been recorded for the tearing of the flag. Police said the reports circulating about the beating are false. Police also said someone else’s photo is circulating.
