Pope Francis has appointed Bishop of Bilbao to Joseba Segura Etxezarraga, so far auxiliary diocesan administrator bishop, the Diocese has reported.
Segura’s inauguration as bishop will take place on July 3 at the Santiago Apóstol Cathedral in the capital of Biscay.
Segura was the main candidate to lead the diocese of Bilbao after the departure of the previous prelate, Mario Iceta, appointed archbishop of Burgos last December.
When his appointment was made public, Monsignor Segura wanted to address a first greeting in which he expressed a wish: “what I hope, and time will tell, that this is good news, not for me, -he pointed out- but for this community of faith to which I have always belonged. and that now he receives me as bishop “.
