Birth, New Zealand | Politician cycled to hospital to give birth

Julie Anne Genter will probably not forget the experience right away.

Genter is a New Zealand politician and Member of Parliament. She was pregnant and it was only a matter of time before the birth was to start, when she suddenly felt that now was the time to get to the hospital. However, the choice of means of transport was somewhat untraditional.

– Great news! At 03.04 this morning we welcomed a new member of the family. I honestly had no intention of cycling during the birth, but it ended up happening, is something Genter writes on his Facebook profile.

New Zealand, an island of five million people, has a reputation for having down-to-earth politicians, according to the news agency Reuters. They write that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern previously took maternity leave, and that she once took her three-month-old baby to a UN meeting, while she was still breastfeeding.

According to Reuters Genter is also said to have cycled to the hospital in 2018, when she was expecting her first child.
