Birth: Funny atmosphere to come into the world – News Vaud & Regions: Nord vaudois-Broye

They had heard so much. Everything, one day. Then its exact opposite, the next day. To the point that, in this very particular period of coronavirus, Lucile and Frédéric Joss no longer knew what to dance on when the birth of their second child was taking shape.

“The doctor had even told us that if everything went well, I could go home six hours after giving birth,” slips the Yverdonnoise on the phone while Lou laughs not far from her while Léo naps like a happy man. new born. “In the end, we decided to let go and remember that everything had gone very well two and a half years ago with the birth of Lou,” continues Frédéric.

Coué method? Perhaps, but an effective method for this couple whose last big question was to find out who to entrust their daughter to when the big moment arises. It was therefore on April 3, when they discovered the strange atmosphere that reigned in the buildings of the Vaudois hospital establishments in the North of Vaud, where “Covid zones” had been demarcated, that the couple took stock of what awaited them.

“Barely Lucile had been taken care of when I was asked to go home, while specifying that I would be called back as soon as the work had started …” If he understands that we must avoid going -return in a sensitive perimeter by definition, Frédéric is somewhat confused and decides … to wait for several hours in the park located next to the hospital.

“The good news was that Fred could attend the delivery”

“But the good news was that he understood that he could attend the delivery and come back to me the next day,” said Lucile. Especially since the young woman learns at the same time that she can stay in the hospital longer than she feared. “Apparently Yverdon has gone back. Because they have not had cases of infected pregnant women and also because it was complicated for midwives and pediatricians to let a mother and baby go so quickly. “

Even if it is long, the delivery goes well. For both mom and dad. “I was able to cut the umbilical cord, then put Leo on Lucile and make skin to skin,” says Frédéric. Two hours after birth, he must however leave the premises, sanitary measures oblige. Then start a little more complicated hours for him and his wife.

“It’s confusing to come home knowing that you won’t be able to see your wife and son again until the next day. Especially since in two hours, we weren’t able to talk enough with Lucile. I don’t think it was enough for me to really realize that I was a dad again. “

Lucile, on the other hand, finds herself alone, tired by childbirth and by the two complicated nights that preceded her. “I had trouble resting, I felt like Leo was crying a lot and I couldn’t put him in the nursery, always for the same health reasons.” The blow of blues arrives on these meanwhile, fatally. “And it was only by phone that Fred could comfort me.”

The bright side

Under these conditions, a return home after two days does not seem to be rushed. Two and a half weeks have passed. Time for the little family to discover life together. But only four. “My heart aches for grandparents who cannot see Leo …” regrets Lucile.

The Josses, however, try to see the bright side. Without visits (except those of the midwife for which Lucile and Léo must be in a separate room from Frédéric and Lou), without stress and with telework, they have plenty of time to build their new cocoon. Certainly, but a cocoon that they are delighted to open to their loved ones when it is again possible. “It’s still weird to think that when our friends can see Leo, he will probably be two months old,” she concludes.
