BioNTech and Pfizer COVID vaccine data stolen by hackers from Russia

Hackers from Russia and China stole part of the documents regarding the coronavirus vaccine BioNTech/Pfizer from the networks of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The Dutch edition of De Volkskrant writes about this with reference to sources, transfers DW. It is reported that the cyberattacks occurred back in the fall of 2020.

According to the publication, Russian hackers allegedly sent emails with malicious software to a number of EMA employees. The cybercriminals had access to the agency’s internal networks for at least a month, the newspaper claims. The criminals were interested in the vaccination strategy in European countries and in which drugs from which manufacturers are purchased by these or those countries.

In addition, they stole some of the documents for BioNTech and Pfizer. Later, some of them appeared in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet, but with changed data. Experts suggest that the criminals wanted to use misinformation to question the effectiveness of the drug.

And hackers from China gained access to the internal networks of the EMA in the spring of 2020, carrying out a cyberattack on one of the German universities.

Both Russia and China deny involvement in the attacks, the report says.

As reported OBOZREVATEL, Ukrainian firms and organizations warned about a possible increased level of cyber threats due to the theft as a result of a “powerful cyber attack” of the tools of the leading US company FireEye.
