Bill Gates’ Ex-Wife Doesn’t Want To Donate Too Much Money to His Foundation

Melinda Gates has been officially divorced from her husband for some time, Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft. Both of them are still committed to managing the charitable foundation Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but now Melinda no longer wants to give a lot of money to the foundation. Why?

Melinda is estimated to be worth USD 6.1 billion according to Forbes. In a recent interview, Melinda stated that she still plans to give most of her money to various charities, but that much of it is no longer going to the Gates Foundation. This means that the money will be more spread out.

“I recognize the absurdity of so much money being concentrated on just one person and I believe the only responsibility that goes with this kind of money is to give it as much as possible,” said Melinda.

“I am committed to doing more than just writing checks. I am also committed to putting energy, time and effort into fighting poverty and advancing equality for women and other marginalized groups in the United States and the world,” she added. On the other hand, Bill Gates emphasized his commitment to the Gates Foundation. “This foundation is my philanthropic priority, even as my giving to other areas has continued to grow over the years,” Bill Gates said.

Earlier after their divorce, the CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Mark Suzman said Bill and his ex-wife will be entering a trial period and will continue to work at the foundation for two years after the divorce. If in two years the two of them don’t feel comfortable working together, Melinda will resign from the foundation.

“If after two years either of them decides they cannot continue to work together as co-chair, French Gates will step down from his position as co-chair and trustee,” Suzman said in the announcement.

Suzman added, if Melinda Gates completely back down then Bill Gates will take full control of the foundation. Melinda is also supported to continue to do charity and will get personal funds from Bill which will be separated from the foundation’s funds.
