Bill Gates is making $20 billion (about 19.95 billion euros) available for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, so that it can do more to solve the corona pandemic, the war in Ukraine and other global problems.

Microsoft co-founder and ex-wife Melinda French-Gates have both pledged to donate the majority of their assets to the foundation they co-founded 20 years ago, as well as to other charitable programs.

The couple announced their separation in May 2021, but said they would work together as co-chairs for two years on a trial basis. At the end of the trial period, French-Gates can resign and receive a buyout from Gates, who remains in charge of the foundation.

With an estimated net worth of approximately $114 billion, Gates is now the fourth richest person in the world according to the billionaires’ index of Bloomberg† Most of his assets are in Microsoft stock.

“I will go down on the list of the world’s richest people and eventually disappear from that list,” he wrote in a blog post on Wednesday. “It is my duty to give back my wealth to society and thus improve lives. I hope that others in my position will also stand up at this time.”
