Bill Gates turns out to have another predicate besides dedengkot Microsoft, billionaire, and philanthropist. The bespectacled man also thought of himself as gamer.
Gates made the admission in his latest blog post about the novel ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin. Gates said he didn’t think he’d be able to relate to a novel about video games.
“Am I a gamer? For a long time I will say no because I don’t spend hundreds of hours deep into one game,” Gates said, as quoted from PCGamer, Sunday (11/6/2023).
“But when I was younger, I loved arcade games and was really good at Tetris. And in the last few years, I’ve played a lot of online bridge and games like Spelling Bee and various variants of Wordle. The definition of games is getting wider and more inclusive, and it’s fair enough to started calling me gamer,” he continued.
Apart from these games, Gates also known as a hobby of playing the game Minesweeper. A former Microsoft employee said Gates was so addicted to playing Minesweeper before the game launched that an employee had to make a score that couldn’t be beat.
Gates also sees parallels between the storylines in the novel ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’ and his personal and professional life. The novel tells of two best friends Sam and Sadie who both like the game Super Mario Bros. before pursuing a career in game development.
Sam and Sadie then create an indie game called Ichigo. But that success caused problems in their relationship, much like the one experienced Gates dan co-founder Microsoft Paul Allen.
“The early chapter that describes how Sam and Sadie worked until the sun rose in their rundown apartment in Cambridge, Massachusetts, could have been about Paul and I coming up with the idea for Microsoft,” Gates said.
“Like Sam and Sadie, we worked together every day for many years. Paul’s vision and contribution to the company was critical to its success, and he chose to move on. We have a great relationship, but not without the complexities that come with success, ” he continued.
