Bill Gates with his pal, the late Paul Allen, founded Microsoft and make it one of the most well-known and most valuable companies. To achieve this and also compete with competitors, Gates admits that he is often fierce and demanding on his employees.
It’s no secret that Gates, like Steve Jobs at Apple, likes to demand that employees work hard to the limit. According to Gates, he himself worked so intensely that he also applied this to his employees.
“Of course I wasn’t a sweetheart when I was running Microsoft,” he was quoted as saying in a recent podcast interview detikINET from CNBC, Friday (11/09/2020).
When equated with Michael Jordan, Gates agreed. As shown in the documentary The Last Dance, Jordan is sometimes rude to his teammates if they are not active or make mistakes. But that trait is also what makes him a champion.

“I have never asked Microsoft officials to work harder or harder on their mistakes, more than I applied to myself,” Gates said.
“That doesn’t mean you can make the behavior completely forgivable, but it does at least show you project your own values and try to make everyone as hardcore as you are,” he explained.
But it is difficult to match Bill Gates’ work rhythm. He often stays up all night all night to work, never even on vacation or enjoying the weekend. Gates is also known to be temperamental, especially if his employees’ work is not right.
Some Microsoft programmers get sprayed from him often, even their work Gates once called the dumbest thing. “I’m hard on the people I work with. It helps us succeed, but I also believe some of that attitude is overkill,” Gates said last year.
Now as he gets older, Gates admits that he is not what he used to be. “Now that I’m older, I think I’m more subtle about motivating people without having to press as hard as I used to,” he said Bill Gates.
