Biden will convene a meeting of G7 leaders to discuss Iran’s attack on Israel

“Italy, the country holding the G7 presidency, has convened the G7 leaders for a video conference this afternoon,” the Italian government said. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the Iranian attack and expressed concern about the destabilization of the region.

US President Joe Biden has previously announced that he will propose a meeting of G7 leaders to coordinate a unified diplomatic response to Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel. Biden said he strongly condemned the Iranian attack and had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to whom he assured him of US support for Israel.

“I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable ability to defend itself and defeat even unprecedented attacks, thereby sending a clear message to its enemies that they cannot effectively threaten Israel’s security,” the US president revealed.

The G7 group of countries includes the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Canada.

“The G7 will send a message to Israel that the utmost caution is needed to ensure that the situation does not worsen,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told Rai3 broadcaster, adding that Iran’s attack last night could trigger a dangerous chain reaction.
