US President Joe Biden will hold a video conference tonight with some European leaders, the White House said, as part of close consultations and coordination with allies in response to Russian pressure on Ukraine.
The administration of the American president clarified that the leaders of France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, the European institutions and the Secretary General of NATO will take part in the conversation.
The United States is trying to unite its allies in Europe over a package of unprecedented sanctions against Russia if it invades Ukraine, according to AFP.
The agency also quoted an adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron as saying that an attempt would be made in Paris on Wednesday to resume talks in the so-called Normandy format – representatives of Russia and Ukraine would enter into a direct dialogue with France and Germany.
Macron hopes this will help de-escalate tensions.
