The Chief of Cabinet of the province of Buenos Aires, Carlos Bianco, explained that the number of beds and the relationship between the number of people infected with coronavirus and that of the total population were the keys to keeping Mar del Plata in phase 4, despite the increase in cases registered during the month of July.
The explanation was given to the local press, minutes before President Alberto Fernández inaugurated by teleconference the Hospital Modular built near the Interzonal Hospital of the city.
“We have been closely monitoring the last two weeks, precisely because there was a significant increase in cases in the district. But we must also bear in mind that although this increase is important, we what we are looking at is (the number of cases) in relation to the total population“Said the official, who assured that” General Pueyrredon has a very large population “and” cases are weighted for every 100,000 inhabitants. “
In addition, Bianco pointed to the number of beds occupied in health facilities as another of the fundamental indicators when defining the phases. “At this point we are all concerned and unveiled to be able to keep at bay the attention span of patients in intensive care”, he pointed.
In this way, other health indicators were left behind, such as the absence of indigenous cases for a period of 21 days, which, until a few weeks ago, were key to moving towards new flexibilities.
The head of the Cabinet also did not pay special interest in the existence or not of community transmission, although he did highlight that he received from the mayor the epidemiological links of the latest infections and that they are analyzed “almost on a case-by-case basis”. “For now we understand that it can work like this, but this is day by day, minute by minute”, he indicated, referring to the permanence in phase 4.
Instead, he was the deputy minister of Health of the province, Nicolas Kreplak, who did point to the transmission: “We understand that it can continue, but if we start to see more community infections, we would have to think of something else”.
In this sense, and beyond the current situation, Bianco clarified that any definition is plausible for change.
“As the governor has said, this is a phase of intermittent, preventive and compulsory social isolation and distancing, which means that you can back down at any time. Hopefully not, that we can keep infections, cases, deaths at bay, and be able to maintain a life within certain parameters of normality, but if not, because the first thing we have to take care of is the health issue, we are not going to hesitate to back down as we have done in many districts, “he warned.
In addition, before the new commercial openings, Bianco called for social responsibility and extreme care not to contract Covid-19.
“We have said this to the point of exhaustion and it seems to me that we can already establish it as an iron law in the pandemic: the greater the circulation of people, the greater the possibility of contagion“, he pointed.
And although he pointed out that “almost daily” he analyzes together with Montenegro the different flexibilities, he did not rule out that the situation may change from one moment to another.
