BFV increases the pressure and postpones the restart

The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) increased the pressure on politicians to approve the restart of the “19/21” season. One thing is clear: the restart will be delayed by at least two weeks.

When are viewers allowed in? The BFV is sending ever clearer signals to politicians.

“The ball is now in the political half of the game, it has to decide whether to play along or whether to keep you, our 4,500 clubs, on the sidelines and thus jeopardize your existence.” With these clear words, BFV President Rainer Koch is increasing the pressure on politics in a letter to the Bavarian amateur clubs. As previously reported, the association cannot understand why other events (for example in cinemas, theaters or in restaurants) can now take place in front of an audience, while the amateur football clubs in Bavaria are not allowed to let spectators onto the sports fields. To make matters worse: in the neighboring federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Hesse, games are already allowed in front of a maximum of 500 and 250 spectators respectively.

Koch specifies: “When it comes to our games, it’s usually not about filling fan curves in stadiums where you stand close together, but rather getting a certain number of club members, parents and friends to football pitches that offer enough space to keep a distance We have proposed solutions several times and offered to help develop regulations. ” For example, the BFV has drawn up a hygiene and protection concept under the leadership of the association doctor Werner Krutsch.

However, since the Bavarian state government will probably not decide on the planned restart in amateur football until September 1st, it would be too close to start playing on September 5th and 6th. Koch announces: “For this reason, the BFV board decided to give its clubs a certain lead time to implement the then applicable hygiene concepts and to continue the game (if it is finally allowed by the state) from September 19, 2020.” However, if the clubs involved want to hold games beforehand, that would be allowed.

Koch closes his open letter to the clubs with an urgent appeal: “We ask you, too, to continue to pull together, to address political representatives at your location and to clearly express the positions we represent together. Because it is also clear: It can only work together. Clubs, associations – and now especially politics. “
