Beware, Stomach Pain Can Be An Early Symptom Of COVID-19! Here’s the difference

Jakarta

The Corona pandemic, which was first discovered in Wuhan, China, is still not over. In fact, the virus now has dozens of variants and is considered dangerous.

Symptoms caused by each variant began to vary. In the initial variant, the symptoms that COVID-19 patients often complain about are fever, cough, loss of sense of smell and taste.

However, new variants such as the Omicron variant have milder symptoms such as flu, cough, fever and digestive problems.

Quoted from WebMD, Tuesday (1/3/2022), research shows that 1 in 5 people infected with COVID-19 have at least one gastrointestinal symptom such as diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain. Then of those who were hospitalized, 25.9 percent experienced gastrointestinal problems.

Symptoms of COVID-19 Stomach Pain

In a study conducted in March 2020 and published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, stomach pain and diarrhea are early symptoms of being infected with the Corona virus. Patients who complain of gastrointestinal symptoms also have poor outcomes and have a higher risk of death than those who are asymptomatic.

“This report underscores the need to evaluate GI (gastrointestinal) symptoms-nausea, vomiting or diarrhea-as a potential presentation of COVID-19 before progressing to respiratory symptoms,” Forbes reports, quoted by the Times of India.

In another study of 25,252 people, gastrointestinal symptoms were found in COVID-19 patients. The following are the symptoms of gastrointestinal COVID-19 in COVID patients:

  • Lack of appetite
  • Loss of smell and sense of taste
  • Diarrhea
  • Nauseous
  • Stomach ache
  • Vomiting blood
