“Beware of Scam Impersonating Company President: Mazovian Police Warning”

A fairly simple but unfortunately effective scam described by the Mazovian police:

(…) they impersonated the president of the Siedlce company, created an e-mail address confusingly similar to the real one and sent the accountant a prepared invoice for payment for the amount of over PLN 12,000. zloty. The woman, due to the fact that she repeatedly received such orders from her boss via e-mail, lost her vigilance. The e-mail did not raise any suspicions in her. She followed the procedures and paid the amount due.

Monika informed us about a similar case some time ago:

This message was received by my employee, she immediately reported it to me …. someone must be rummaging in the National Court Register of our company, because there are available pesel numbers, positions of board members and a middle name that I never officially use.

In the latter case, fortunately, no one was fooled (notice the rather unhelpful signature – a double name and a totally strange e-mail).
