Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some applications on Android have the ability to break into accounts. This time security researchers have found 34 apps that have Hook malware in them.
The malware doesn’t just drain the victim’s account. However, these problematic applications are also capable of hijacking the victim’s WhatsApp account.
Hook is malware created by the same hackers who made banking viruses for Android, namely BlackRock and ERMAC. Both have their advantages.
For example on BlackRock, to steal money and passwords on banking applications. ERMAC can be used to steal contact information and bank IDs from victims’ crypto wallets.
Meanwhile, a cybersecurity company from the Netherlands, Threat Fabric, explained that Hooks can perform activities such as data exfiltration and transactions. All of these actions can be performed without the need for additional channels.
Hooks also have the ability to download specific files. So the hacker pockets the list stored in the victim’s device.
Meanwhile Hook can save all WhatsApp chats. Hackers can also send messages with their victims’ accounts.
Gizchina reports Hook is available for a number of countries, including the United States, Australia, Poland, Canada, Turkey, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy, and Portugal.
