Between 3 and 5 hours of exercise per week would lower the risk of seven cancers

A new American meta-analysis has shown that following weekly recommendations for physical activity can reduce your risk of developing seven different types of cancer.

Reduced risk for 7 cancers

This analysis was about whether the recommended amount of sport could be linked to lowering the risk of developing fifteen cancers. Health authorities recommend between 2.5 and 5 hours per week of moderate intensity activity, the equivalent of 7.5 to 15 MET (metabolic equivalent) per week.

The exercise recommendations of 7.5 to 15 MET hours / week were associated with a statistical decrease in the risk of 7 cancers out of the 15 included in the study.

The researchers also found that the more people engaged in physical activity, the lower their risk of disease.

Among the 15 cancers studied, physical activity was linked to a reduction in cancer colon in men (risk reduced by 8% for 7.5 MET hours per week and by 14% for 15 MET), a lower risk of cancer breast in women (6 – 10%), cancerendometrial (10 – 18%), cancer of kidney (11 – 17%), myeloma (14 – 19%), cancer liver (18 – 27%), and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in women (11 – 18%).
