Besançon apartment owner indicted for murder and jailed after the death of a man in his twenties found in his home lying in a pool of blood

The owner of an apartment in central Besançon was charged with murder and jailed after the death of a man in his twenties found in his home lying in a pool of blood, we learned Sunday from the Besançon prosecutor.

Admitted to hospital for neck injuries, the 40-year-old suspect could be heard.

“His detention was authorized by a doctor who deemed his state of health compatible,” Deputy Prosecutor Ludivine Fathi told AFP, without further comment on the defendant’s statements before investigators.

The suspect was previously known to justice for violence, but no criminal act.

A heavy alcoholic, he was the one who alerted residents Friday morning through a window in his apartment, reporting that there was a dead man inside, firefighters said.

After the police secured the premises, they found a man lying in blood, with a big stab, in this apartment in a three-story building located along the Doubs.

According to the regional newspaper L’Est Républicain, which revealed the facts, the suspect had evoked at the time of his arrest a fight that would have preceded the tragedy.

The prosecution, who initially mentioned a squat due to the hygienic condition of the apartment, indicated that the defendant was the owner.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.
