The last city council meeting this year sets the course for the development of the city in the coming months and years. Mayor André Stahl and Kämmerer as well as Finance Director Clemens Pfütz present the city council with the budget for 2021.

Overall, the budget for 2021 has a record volume of 114 million euros. The investment budget alone provides for a sum of 35 million euros. “I am very happy that in these economically very challenging times we can present the Bernau city council with a balanced budget,” said Mayor André Stahl. He is satisfied with the draft that is now available, which not only provides for the municipality to be free from debt, but also takes into account the requests of the parliamentary groups in the city council.

Bernau near Berlin has been debt-free since 2009, even with the draft statutes now available, no loans are taken out. According to the mayor, the budget for 2021 is ambitious. “The city would like to invest significantly again in the coming year, especially in the event hall at the Ladeburger Dreieck, in the new Sternekieker daycare center, in new buildings for the Hasenheide elementary school and in the transport infrastructure.” Investing primarily in the three pillars of education and social affairs, transport and greenery, and this budget proposal also underlines the principle of ‘healthy growth – healthy living’. The budget draft 2021 provides for a total of 7 million euros for investments in the day care center and school, emphasizes Clemens Pfütz, Head of Finance.

“As in 2020, we want to continue working hard in the coming year to improve the infrastructure in our city. Our investment plans are also our action plan for the pandemic. Bernau is responding to the corona crisis with significant investments to support local companies. I hope the city councilors will vote for this budget in the city council meeting on November 26, 2020 ”, said André Stahl.
