As the Berlin police announced on Friday afternoon, a security officer noticed two mirror-inverted swastikas carved into a block of stone in the morning. The swastikas were ten by ten centimeters.

Public witnessing of the swastika and the dissemination of various Nazi slogans is prohibited and punishable in Germany. It is the vusing marks of unconstitutional organizations.
The state security police at the State Criminal Police Office, which is responsible for politically motivated crimes, took over the further investigations. As early as February, unknown persons had carved a swastika into a stele at the monument.
Monument support group: Right-wing extremism and a lack of education are closely related
The support group “Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe eV”, which is committed to the preservation of the memorial, reacted with horror at the desecration on Sunday.
