PH: DR: World Population Day in Savè
A great mobilization of the people of Savè around the government of President Patrice TALON for the success of World Population Day 2023 edition in Benin. This is what should be remembered after a week of various activities. Minister of State Abdoulaye BIO TCHANÉ, leader of the delegation and representing the Head of State on this occasion, welcomed the enthusiasm observed around this day, before recalling the importance for Benin to address the issue of high population growth and its consequences on economic and social development. “In thirty years, the population of Benin has recorded a more than galloping trend. It has tripled, going from 3.3 million inhabitants in 1979 to more than 10 million inhabitants in 2013, an increase rate of more than 200% over the period. If current demographic dynamics continue, our population could double by 2050. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It is the assurance that the identity of Benin, the one for which the Government has been working since 2016, will be consolidated and transmitted from generation to generation”, declared the Minister of State.

However, the Minister of State BIO TCHANE underlined a very important thing: “Faced with this assurance, it is important that we pause to come to the evidence of this implacable truth, that a people can only perpetuate itself if it gives itself the means to overcome its vulnerabilities, overcome its fears and strengthen its resilience to any test. The vision of President Patrice TALON is that we must reach a concerted consensus on the paradigm shifts to be made in order to accelerate the demographic transition in our country. Ensure that the evolution of our demography is an asset for our development”. A fairly clear message that refers to a collective awareness.
At this official celebration, several government ministers, namely the Minister of Health, the Minister of Decentralization, the Minister of Social Affairs and that of Higher Education were present alongside the Minister of Development and Coordination of Government Action. We also note the presence of the Mayor of Savè and technical and financial partners.
The occasion also made it possible to proceed with the official delivery to the prefectural and communal authorities of the documents on the monograph of the Collines department and of the donations to groups of girls and women.
