Benahadux will host next Saturday the II National Encounter ‘Plectrum Music in the province of Almería’ which will bring together ensembles from Torreperogil (Jaén), Segorbe (Castellón) and the Benahadux-Bayyana Musical Association.
The provincial deputy for Culture and Cinema, Manuel Guzmán, has presented this event together with the mayor of Benahadux; Noelia Jose Damian; the musical director of the ACE Benahadux, Germán Alonso and the president of the Musical Association, José Antonio Pérez.
In a note, Guzmán highlighted the “importance” of this Plectrum Music Meeting in Benahadux. “This II Show gives continuity to the project that was launched in 2019, but had to stop its activity due to the pandemic. The purpose of this project is to promote and value Spanish string music as a fundamental part of our instrumental musical heritage”, he said.
Guzmán has also clarified that the plectrum is also “known as a plectrum, pen, straw, vellum, nail or fingernail, it is a small, thin and firm piece, generally in the shape of a triangle, made of different materials that is used to play the guitar and other stringed instruments, as a replacement or help for the fingers”.
In this sense, Guzmán stated that the Provincial Council is committed to this show, which aims to “obtain maximum media impact in the cultural sphere of Almeria, taking advantage of its national character by having the participation of groups, establishing twinning ties with visiting orchestras and offer fans of this music the chance to experience and enjoy quality pulse and plectrum orchestras, fostering the love and survival of this music”.
The mayor of Benahadux, Noelia Damián, has thanked the Diputación since “if we did not have their support we would not be able to hold this meeting”. Damián has invited all the people who want it this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Benahadux Cultural Center.
“The Benahadux-Bayyana Musical Association has worked hard to ensure that this event comes to fruition and I am sure that everyone who goes will love listening to this traditional music, where we give visibility to these instruments that are not so well known. Together with the Association Musical Benahadux-Bayyana with the participation of the Isaac Albéniz de Torreperogil Musical Group and the Ciudad de Segorbe Plectrum Orchestra”, he pointed out.
Germán Alonso, musical director of the Benahadux-Bayyana Musical Group, recalled that everything started in 2019, but “if we had not had the complicity of the Benahadux City Council and the collaboration of the Provincial Council, this second edition could not be carried out. Alonso He also stressed that “this Friday to give the Meeting more dimension, we thought of holding a welcome gala that will take place in the municipality of Terque”.
The president of the Association, José Antonio Pérez, has pointed out that “the instruments we have are traditional, but the repertoire that will be heard will not only be traditional string, but there will also be pop music, zarzuela and classical music. We encourage all music fans who go to Benahadux this Saturday”.
