Suddenly everything was different around the birth of baby Mahaut. The caesarean section was planned anyway, due to other medical complications. But now father Francois was no longer allowed to be there.
Stress
“I would be alone in the delivery,” said mother Amandine. “The two days before delivery were much more stressful. I was so worried.”

Because Amandine was a risk of infection, the caesarean section was performed in a closed operating room in a hospital in Brussels.
Very lonely during labor
Baby Mahaut was taken two minutes after birth. “I felt very lonely during the operation. I was happy when I got back to my room to really meet her,” said Amandine.

Father and mother are now in quarantine. Both of them always wear a mask to protect Mahaut.
“We hope everything goes well”
“Caring for a newborn is difficult without getting close,” said Amandine. “We do our best, enjoy and hope that everything goes well with her.”

Amandine and Francois already had two children, but they have not yet been able to see their newborn sister due to the situation. Mahaut himself has not yet been tested for the coronavirus, but according to the doctors in Brussels it will.
