Belgian homeless man set on fire by man who had just left prison

It happened around 3.30 am at Brussels South station. Shortly before that, the suspect would have covered the homeless man with newspapers. He then set the homeless person on fire with a lighter, writes the Belgian Sudinfo.

Critical condition

Police and ambulance quickly arrived and the victim was taken to the burn center in critical condition. He would have been badly burned, especially on his back.

A suspect was arrested near the station shortly after the incident. The man was said to be a 34-year-old man who was released the same day after serving an eight-month prison term for various thefts.

‘Warming up a homeless man’

The suspect and the homeless man are both of Polish descent. According to the Belgian RTL info the two are said to have met just before the incident and drank alcohol together.

According to Belgian media, the suspect would later have set the homeless man on fire to ‘warm him up’.
