Bel-20 is also Bel-21: Solvay splits into 2 separate companies after 160 years, Barco disappears from the list

Barco has to make way

Due to the split of Solvay, the Bel-20 now consists of 21 companies, because all other companies have also remained in the stock market index, although this will only be temporary. On Monday the Bel-20 will be at 20 again because on Friday evening the Barco share will disappear from the list after the stock exchange closes. Euronext, the operator of the Brussels stock exchange, reported this this evening.

This is not the first time that the Bel-20 consists of 21 companies. This has already happened a number of times, including when – again – Barco spun off a subsidiary. Back then it was a one-day Bel-21, while now it will be a week.

We have also experienced the opposite: a Bel-19 instead of a Bel-20. That happened in 2011. Then NPM, one of Albert Frère’s holding companies, was delisted from the stock exchange after a takeover. That situation then lasted for a number of weeks.
