Being a celebrity isn’t all it seems to be – The Advocate-Messenger – Celebrity Land

I was standing in line at Kroger the other day waiting to get checked out. I stood there, mentally going over the shopping list, trying to decide if I had forgotten anything. I was careful to make a list of everything I needed. However, it is of little use to me at home on the kitchen counter. It seems I need a list to remind me to bring my list.

While lining up, I started scanning the covers of all the magazines that were filling the checkout area with all kinds of gossip about every possible celebrity. I saw where a celebrity was seen on the beach with a woman who was not his partner and another celebrity had lost 30 pounds and I could do it too!

I’m not a fan of the meth and crack diet so I’ll have to put that aside. I don’t understand why anyone would want to know or care about what celebrities do.

It got so bad that I was almost relieved when I read the cover of the National Enquirer and saw that Bigfoot had been seen having lunch with the Lochness Monster.

Many people seek fame but I don’t understand exactly why. They have to give up any idea of privacy and can’t even go out to eat with their family without money hungry photographers trying to get their picture taken.

I can only imagine if this happened to me. There I would sit with BBQ sauce stains on the front of my shirt as I downed a plate of ribs at the Cracker Barrel and it was plastered on the cover of every magazine cover across the country. No, thanks.

Some people come up to me from time to time and ask me to sign one of my books, but no one is hiding in the bushes to see what I am buying at the Dollar Store. It’s bad enough when I go to Walmart as I wear my hole-in-the-sleeve T-shirt and pray I don’t see anyone I know. Add to that a photographer hiding behind the pork and bean display by snapping your photo and putting it on magazine covers across the country and we see how celebrities have to live every day.

I saw the cover of a magazine that told the important news of how a celebrity “came out of the closet” and finally announced that he was gay and why I was supposed to worry about this. I assure you that I do not. I’m too busy minding my own business.

However, somehow, there I was reading everything about it.
