Why is a woman commenting on the final for the first time on ARD?
Because it has obviously been neglected in the fifteen finals so far. On the radio, at least, the ARD was getting serious now. After the radio pioneer Sabine Töpperwien, who had just retired, said that she would probably not live to see a woman commenting on a World Cup final on public radio, the broadcaster announced that the World Cup final in Qatar in 2022 being commented on by a woman on the ARD radio stations. And also in Italy – England on Sunday at Wembley, a woman sits at the radio microphone for ARD: Julia Metzner, tried and tested from umpteen Bundesliga radio conferences, comes to the premiere.
