Beef Tongue Contains Cholesterol, Don’t Eat It Often!

JAKARTA cow tongue contain cholesterol which can cause health problems if consumed frequently. In fact, beef tongue is one of the most common types of organ meat consumed in various processed dishes.

Reporting from Healthline, Sunday (9/1/2022) the tongue which is part of the muscle is a piece of meat that is tender and delicious because it has a high fat content.

The George Institute certified nutritionist Daisy Coyle says that organ meats are high in cholesterol, regardless of the animal source, be it beef, pork, chicken, lamb or goat.

Described on the official website of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), for beef tongue serving size per 100 grams contains about 87 milligrams or approximately 29 percent cholesterol.

When you eat foods that are high in cholesterol, your liver responds by producing less cholesterol. Therefore, foods high in cholesterol have only a small effect on total blood cholesterol levels.

Most organ meats do contain a lot of cholesterol. However, eating a cholesterol-rich diet is not directly linked to higher blood cholesterol or the risk of heart disease.

Although high in cholesterol, it does not mean that beef tongue does not contain nutrients in it. Reporting from Healthy Eating, like most meat, beef tongue also contains basic nutrients in it.

Beef tongue is a fairly moderate source of calories, 3 ounces of beef tongue contains 240 calories, 16 grams of protein and 19 grams of fat. All of these ingredients are a source of amino acids needed to build lean muscle.
