The Ethics Committee of the South Korean Football Association announced the exclusion of one of its stars from the list preparing to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup, which will be held during the months of January and February 2024 in Qatar, because of a sexual film.

The Korean Committee indicated in a statement that Norwich City striker Hwang Eui-joo was excluded from his country’s national team roster, due to him illegally filming a sexual film with his ex-girlfriend.

The committee added that Hwang, who denies the accusations against him, is awaiting a police investigation in order to determine his legal position, and then his position on participating in the Asian Cup will be decided.

Hwang normally participates with his team, Norwich City, where he played against Watford and scored a goal, in the match that his team lost by three goals to two.

Lee Yeon-nam, head of the KFA Ethics Committee, commented in press statements, saying: “National players must act with a high degree of ethics and responsibility, and Hwang is currently being investigated as a suspect, as it is difficult for him to carry out normal team activities.”

For his part, German coach Jurgen Klinsmann, South Korea’s coach, commented, saying: “I completely understand the situation, and I will respect the decision of the South Korean Federation.”
