Jakarta

Number of patients COVID-19 who were hospitalized in United States of America continues to rise, in the midst of a surge varian Omicron which is highly contagious.

The number even reached a new high of 132,646 people, according to a Reuters tally on Monday (10/1) local time. This figure breaks the record 132,051 hospitalizations recorded in January last year.

As reported by the news agency Reuters, Tuesday (11/1/2022), hospitalizations have continued to increase since the end of December 2021, doubling in the last three weeks, as varian Omicron quickly took over Delta as the dominant version of the Corona virus in United States of America.

According to analysis Reuters, the counties of Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Vermont, Virginia, Washington DC, and Wisconsin have reported record rates of hospitalized COVID-19 patients recently.

While potentially less severe, health officials have warned that many infections caused by varian Omicron can overwhelm the hospital system. Hospitals have even suspended certain procedures as they struggle to cope with the surge in patients amid staff shortages.
