The excitement after the first training for the World Cup downhill in Cortina was great. Both Beat Feuz and top favorite Dominik Paris complained about the route. The course is too turning and the pace is too slow. So the race management decided to adapt the course for the second training session as well as for the World Championship downhill.

The women presented on Saturday. Now it was the men’s turn to win a medal in the World Cup downhill from a Swiss point of view. The prospects were promising. Beat Feuz was in shape and finished third in the second training session. But the Emmentaler knew that if he wanted to beat the local hero and eternal rival Dominik Paris as well as the competition from Austria, it would take a perfect drive.

The 34-year-old didn’t quite succeed in this perfect World Championship drive. Looking back, the Swiss invested a little too much before and after the “vertigine jump”. Nevertheless, Beat Feuz can look forward to the bronze medal. “It didn’t quite fit on certain bends today,” Feuz says in an interview with SRF and adds:

“Winning a medal is always nice. But I still mourn the gold medal a little. It would have been possible. “

Having started with number one, Vincent Kriechmayr is also number one at the finish. The Austrian does not show the perfect drive, he lost a little time in the final section, but Kriechmayr secured the gold medal. Somewhat surprisingly, Andreas Sander wins silver. The German is only losing a hundredth to the world champion.

Odermatt and Janka with next top results

Carlo Janka is also in good shape. As in the World Cup Super G, the Bündner is in the top 10. The Swiss finished in a good ninth place. Marco Odermatt is doing even better. The man from Nidwalden shows a remarkable performance and is in fourth place 65 hundredths behind. Dominik Paris is just as fast. For the top favorite traded in advance, it is a slight disappointment. Niels Hintermann, the fourth Swiss, missed a goal and was eliminated.
