BD: Auctions: world record for a Spirou board – Loisirs

This is a new world record at auction for a board by Franquin. Saturday, at the Artcurial house in Paris, “La pirogue” sold at 337 600 euros (358 983 francs). It is a drawing in Indian ink made for the cover of the Spirou collection n ° 49 (1954).

We can see the Marsupilami, this enigmatic and mischievous animal from the imagination of the Belgian Franquin, hanging on a liana, spying on Spirou and Fantasio who went looking for him on a pirogue in the heart of the virgin forest of Palombie.

Big success for Hergé

Artcurial has accumulated a sum of 1 379 170 euros (1 466 525 francs), reports “Le Parisien”. For the late André Franquin, the poetic plate from Volume 1 of “Idées Noires” (imagined with Gotlib) changed hands to 117 000 euros (124 410 francs). A drawing of “Ottokar’s Scepter”, the eighth album of Tintin’s adventures, produced for the cover of the newspaper “Le Petit Vingtième” (1938), was also a great success. The hammer fell to 306 600 euros(325 000 francs) for this work in ink by Hergé.

Another drawing from Hergé Studios, entitled “The Black Island”, with a gorilla preparing to throw a stone at Tintin created the surprise. It flew away after a great phone auction battle in 39 000 euros (41 500francs ), multiplying its estimate by 39.

On the other hand, a gouache by Albert Uderzo, disappeared during confinement, showing Asterix and Obelix, produced for the cover of the coloring album “Punch”, published in 1966, did not find takers.
