BC «Ogre» will open the season in the Latvian-Estonian basketball league – «VEF Rīga» game on October 3 / Article / LSM.lv

The calendar of the Latvian-Estonian basketball league has been prepared and the tournament will be opened by BC «Ogre» – «VEF Rīga» game On October 3, Latvijas Radio director of Latvian basketball leagues Kristaps Janičenoks told Monday.

The first part of the season after the two-round game will end on December 5, with Latvian clubs playing only mutual games. The organizers are counting on the second wave of the pandemic, so they chose a solution to reduce the risks to the tournament, Janičenoks explained.

“We will play only within Latvia with Latvian clubs. Such is the mini-Latvian championship,” Janičenoks described the first half of the season.

On December 9, the season is scheduled to continue in the league and Latvian teams are already scheduled to play against Estonian clubs.

Six Latvian clubs have been approved for participation in the Latvia-Estonia league in the 2020/2021 season, but Estonia will be represented with seven teams. Latvia will be represented by VEF Rīga, BC “Ogre”, BC “Ventspils”, “Valmiera Glass VIA”, “University of Latvia” and BC “Liepāja”. In contrast, Estonian clubs in the league will be Tallinn’s Kalev / Cramo, Avis Utilitas Rapla, Parnu Sadam, Tartu Ulikool, Rakvere Tarvas, Tallinn’s Kalev / TLU and TalTech.

Last season in the Latvian-Estonian league failed to end due to a pandemic. There was no elimination tournament in Latvia, but “VEF Rīga” became the national champion according to the results achieved in the regular season of the Latvian-Estonian league. BC “Ogre” provided silver prizes.
